Day 02 – Islamabad ✈️ Skardu | Kachura Lake & Katpana Desert

After breakfast, transfer to Islamabad Airport for your flight to Skardu.

The flight itself can be one of the spectacular highlights of the journey, with mountain scenery depending on the weather and flight route.

After arrival in Skardu, meet your local team and begin exploring the valley.

💧 Kachura Lake

Visit Kachura Lake, one of the well-known attractions around Skardu. The lake is surrounded by mountains and is particularly photogenic during autumn. The Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Department lists Kachura Lake among Skardu’s principal tourist attractions.

🏜️ Katpana Cold Desert

Later, drive to Katpana Cold Desert for sunset.

Enjoy the changing colors of the landscape as the sun sets behind the mountains.

Day 03 – Skardu → Khaplu Valley | Khaplu Royal Fort

After breakfast, begin your scenic drive from Skardu to Khaplu Valley.

The journey offers numerous opportunities for photography, especially during autumn when trees and surrounding valleys take on golden and orange colors.

Stop at suitable viewpoints along the route for:

• Village landscapes

• Autumn trees
• Traditional Balti settlements

🏰 Khaplu Royal Fort

Explore Khaplu Royal Fort, one of the important cultural and architectural attractions of Baltistan.

Take time to explore the fort and surrounding Khaplu Valley.

Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Khaplu and its surrounding mountain scenery.

Day 04 – Khaplu → Shigar Valley → Safaranga Desert → Skardu

After breakfast, depart Khaplu for Shigar Valley.

The drive provides more opportunities for photography at scenic viewpoints.

🏰 Shigar Royal Fort

Visit the historic Shigar Fort, located in Shigar Valley approximately 32 km from Skardu. The Gilgit-Baltistan Tourism Department describes the fort as a 17th-century royal residence known locally as Fong Khar – Palace on the Rock.

Explore:

• Traditional Balti architecture
• Historic royal residence
• Shigar Valley
• Traditional village surroundings
• Mountain scenery

Enjoy lunch at the Royal Fort before continuing the journey.

🚙 Safaranga Desert Jeep Safari

Later, drive toward Safaranga Desert and enjoy a 4×4 Jeep Safari through the desert landscape.

This is an excellent opportunity for photography and an adventurous experience combining desert scenery with the surrounding Karakoram mountains.

After the excursion, drive back toward Skardu.

Day 05 – Skardu ✈️ Islamabad | Taxila Heritage & Islamabad

After breakfast, transfer to Skardu Airport for your return flight to Islamabad.

After arrival in Islamabad, begin the cultural and historical part of your journey.

🏛️ Taxila Museum

Drive toward Taxila and visit Taxila Museum, which houses a major collection of Gandharan Buddhist art and artifacts. The museum states that approximately 7,000 artifacts are displayed, with many more preserved in its reserve collection.

☸️ Dharmarajika Buddhist Stupa

Continue to Dharmarajika Buddhist Stupa, an important archaeological site within the Taxila complex.

The Dharmarajika complex represents a long period of Buddhist history in Taxila, extending from approximately the 3rd century BCE to the 7th century CE.

Taxila is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1980.

After the Taxila visit, drive back to Islamabad.
